Profile of co-founders Layne J. Brown, LUTCF* and Cher L. Brown, CISR*, CIC*

Layne is a native Iowan, born and raised on a second generation family farm near Hampton. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Iowa State University.

Layne entered the insurance services industry in 1996 and has earned his Life Underwriting Training Council Fellow (LUTCF*) designation. He specializes in lifestyle protection and financial needs analysis.

In his spare time, Layne enjoys golfing and hunting.

Cher is a native Iowan from Clarion. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Iowa State University.

Her industry experience started in 1995 and includes both life and commercial insurance underwriting. Cher also spent six years as an Senior Account Manager for a large independent commercial insurance agency in Iowa. Cher has earned her Certified Insurance Service Representative (CISR*) designation and Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC*) designation. She specializes in property and casualty protection.

In her spare time, Cher enjoys golfing and cooking.

(* The LUTCF, CISR, and CIC designations are earned after successful completion of specific academic studies and exams by insurance-related professional organizations.)

Together Layne and Cher have a son, Hunter and twin daughters, Lauren and Taylor. They also enjoy spending time with family and friends, attending Iowa State University sporting events, and traveling.

Who we are

C.L. Brown & Associates, LLC is an insurance and related services firm based in a suburb of Des Moines, Iowa. Our associates include licensed agents who represent American National and various outside insurance carriers. Each associate has a different specialty and we have clients in Iowa and five other states.

What we do

We help our clients with lifestyle protection, financial needs analysis, and property and casualty protection. We do this by focusing on three primary objectives:

• Understand our clients and always put their needs first
• Provide a stress free, no pressure experience
• Provide world class service and support

Our Process

First, we get to know our client's current situation, needs, goals and concerns.

Second, we identify potential exposures that could jeopardize their goals.

Third, we develop a strategy designed around their needs and goals.

Fourth, we assist our clients in implementing their strategy.

Finally, we make sure they stay on track by providing ongoing pro-active service and support. Will Rogers once said, "Even if you are on the right track you will get ran over if you just sit there."

How we are compensated

We are compensated for our services in two ways. First, we receive commissions from insurance and related products. Second, we are rewarded by high-quality referrals.

Awards and recognition

We are pleased to announce that Cher was voted "Best Insurance Agent in East Polk County" in the Altoona Herald's "Best of 2007" honors. Also, Layne has consistently qualified for membership in the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT), which is The Premier Association of Financial Professionals®, an international, independent association of more than 31,500 members, or less than one percent of the world's life insurance and financial services professionals from 464 companies in more than 80 nations and territories. The MDRT membership is achieved by only a small percentage of life insurance and financial services professionals worldwide and is based on production requirements from commission credit.
